Hazelbury is proud to have their very own school parliament! This is an opportuntiy to hear the views of all pupils through a democratic process and learn how to action ideas.
Our School Parliament focuses on:
- Working and learning together
- Learning about democracy
- Learning how to play a positive role model in our community
- Improving our school for everyone
Each class has a class councillor. The councillors are responsible for collecting the views and issues raised in their classes. In Year Six, instead of councillors, each class has two MPs (Members of Parliment) who lead their council in bi-weekly meetings. They take minutes and chair the meeting, supported by a Deputy Headteacher. These councils are arranged in Hazelbury Family groupings.
The MPs from each Hazelbury Family then meet with the Headteacher each half term.
A special 'Polling Day' takes place to vote for the councillors and MPs- children have to visit the school hall to vote on ballot papers and enter into a box.
